Friday 1 September - Welshpool and Llanfair Railway Gala

"Countess" leaving Welshpool
I took the train today to visit the Welshpool and Llanfair Railway Gala. All of the operational locomotives were in steam and there was a guest visitor ("Superb")
The first surprise of the day was at Shrewsbury station which now has a Selecta machine - Shrewsbury has joined the big time.
"Countess" took the first train from Welshpool, wonderful in its green GWR colours. We passed the "Earl", in black at Cyfronydd having already passed "Superb" at Castel Caereinion.

Llanfair Caereinion was very busy indeed. The wseather was good and there was a good turnout for a Friday.
"Superb" arriving with the goods (freight) train at Llanfair Caereinion

In June Paul and I spoke to the man who built this open wagon. He has dared anyone to put coal in it
I took a train back to Welshpool, again hauled by "Countess" and looked around the various displays before returning to Shrewsbury.

"Monarch" on display at Welshpool.
