We took the Arriva Trains Wales train to Newport and met Hilary at the station. She is looking well and Yalena is a grand matron dog now. We took a taxi to the Junction 28 restaurant in Bassaleg.
It is built on the former railway station on a now abandoned railway line and just across from an impressive church. The restaurant is well laid out with a number of rooms and we had a table in the "Carriage". The meal was first rate, the highlight being slow cooked lamb on garlic mashed potato with a wonderful gravy. For dessert the ladies settled for Sticky Toffee pudding while I settled for lighter fare (mango and lemon). We had a long lunch and Yalena sat under the table all the time but her head came up occasionally to see if there was the possibility of anything to eat (which there wasn't). She is getting close to retirement
With a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and a Doom Bar beer for me we left the restaurant in good time to return to the station to catch the train back to Shrewsbury. We were enthralled overhearing a phone conversation from a young lady who didn't seem to know where she was going and was confusing Chester with Chesterfield. In the end it seemed that she had settled to taking a taxi from Chester to Liverpool.
